If you need urgent dental care, appointments are now available locally as part of the 700,000 additional urgent dental appointments being rolled out across the country.

People in mid and south Essex who need urgent or unscheduled dental care can access these appointments by calling NHS111.

The appointments are for urgent conditions like severe toothache, abscesses or swellings, severe bleeding from the gums, and broken or knocked out teeth.

In mid and south Essex, a dedicated service is available where NHS 111 call handlers can book urgent dental appointments directly into dental practice systems. This makes it quicker and easier for people to get urgent care without having to call around dental practices themselves to request an appointment or visit emergency departments.

On 23 June 2025, it was announced that people living with obesity will begin to access tirzepatide (Mounjaro) for weight loss in primary care settings across England.

However, this national announcement does not mean that prescriptions will be made available immediately to all eligible patients at GP practices.

Weight management services are commissioned locally by each area's Integrated Care Board (ICB), meaning access to treatments like tirzepatide will differ between regions.  In Mid and South Essex, access to tirzepatide will initially be through specialist weight management services only.

At this time, tirzepatide will not be available via GP practices in Mid and South Essex. Access through primary care is not expected to begin until later in 2025.

This medication is prioritised for people with the highest clinical need and those living with obesity who also suffer from multiple obesity-related health conditions and stand to benefit the most from treatment.
