Health Check Clinics
We are pleased to offer patients aged 40 to 75 a five-yearly Health Check.
- If you haven’t been offered one, please contact the Surgery.
- For those patients who have not had the required blood tests done within the past 6 months, this will need to be arranged before an appointment can be given.
These clinics focus on patients not regularly seen for chronic conditions, involving blood tests to check cholesterol, anemia, and diabetes risk. Our trained nurses will assess your results alongside your height and weight (BMI) to evaluate your heart health, lifestyle, family history, and diet.
Our goal is to provide a supportive approach to enhance your health without judgment. We also offer facilities and clinics to help improve fitness, lose weight, or quit smoking.
Learning Disabilities Health Check Clinics
If you or a family member has a learning disability, we have clinics tailored for this purpose. The checks are very thorough and are carried out by staff trained in learning disability assistance and includes an examination by one of our Specialist GPs who will complete the examination and prepare a plan of care.
If you would like to be booked into this clinic please contact the Surgery to arrange a blood test followed by an appointment.
Minor Surgery
The surgery has a well-equipped day-case operating theatre and recovery unit. We offer minor surgery. These operations are performed by experienced GPs. Full information will be given to patients when appointments are booked. This unique service means that appropriate patients will not have to attend the hospital for these procedures.
Referral for operations is by GP only.
Smoking Cessation Clinics
We are delighted to offer help to patients who wish to give up smoking.
Our staff have been trained by the National Centre for Smoking Cessation to offer a comprehensive service with a full initial consultation and regular follow up clinics. We are able to offer support and prescriptions for medication where required and would be very happy to make an initial appointment for our current patients wishing to take up this service.
We are very proud at Queensway to have been the third most successful service in Southend to help our patients to quit within the first few months of offering this programme!

Pregnancy Service
Our GPs and nurses are able to offer comprehensive Family Planning advice to our patients, whether you require something to prevent pregnancy:
- in the short term e.g. barrier contraception, pill, depo injection; or
- longer-term prevention which can be stopped at a later date (Long Acting Reversible Contraception LARC); or
- something more permanent (e.g. vasectomy or sterilisation).
Contraception Service
We offer advice and support on a wide range of contraceptive options to help you choose the method that is right for you.
Contraception is a personal choice, and the best option will depend on your health, lifestyle, future pregnancy plans, and individual preferences. Our clinical team can discuss the advantages and disadvantages of different methods and help you make an informed decision. We provide confidential contraception advice for people of all ages.
